Technology Awareness Day (Tech A-Day) is an annual event that brings together students, educators and vendor partners to highlight innovations in education technology and collaborate on how schools can use them to enhance instruction and streamline school district operations.

The 36th Annual Regional Technology Awareness Day will take place at the Albany Capital Center on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s theme is Engage • Educate • Empower • Employ.

Keynote Speaker
This year’s keynote speaker is Matt Miller, the author of six books, including Ditch That Textbook. His Ditch That Textbook blog reaches thousands of educators in more than 100 countries with inspiration and practical teaching ideas. He’s a keynote speaker, podcast host, and the creator of the Ditch That Textbook Digital Summit. His full bio is available on our website.

A Tech A-Day First- The State of the Labor Market

Join NERIC Assistant Superintendent Mike Doughty and Dana Politis, Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Developent at the NYS Department of Labor, on the Main Stage for an engaging conversation about how today’s labor market, and the forces shaping its future, are influencing K‑12 instruction and technology.
Presentation Proposals
Tech A-Day offers several breakout sessions on various topics currently relevant to K-12 education. We encourage districts, BOCES and RICs to share expertise on how you’re working toward this year’s theme, as well as any other successful activities or projects that have engaged students through educational technology integration.

Tech Playground
The Tech Playground is a hands-on activity space for all event attendees. In past years, Tech Playground activities included robots, VR headsets, drone simulations and much more. Student Participation & Attendance
Students from districts around the state are encouraged to attend Tech A-Day. In previous years, students have presented sessions, performed musical arrangements, attended the event with district personnel and much more. Vendor Showcase
More than 60 national and regional vendors participated in last year’s Vendor Showcase. The Vendor Showcase, open to Capital Region BOCES and NERIC vendor partners, offers an opportunity for attendees to discuss the latest technological trends and innovations available with industry experts.
