Webex

Webex for virtual collaboration

Webex is a platform for school leaders and organizations to facilitate such activities as Board of Education or company meetings, instruction, professional development, job interviews, and other events in a virtual format. Webex also provides users with an intuitive, cost-effective way to collaborate and to exchange ideas and information online with anyone, anywhere, anytime, on any device.

A secure option for school districts

Capital Region BOCES/NERIC, has executed an Ed Law 2-d and Part 121 compliant data sharing confidentiality agreement with parent company Cisco to affirm that Webex complies with the law and regulations. In order to access this agreement and comply with the law and regulations, a district or BOCES must purchase Webex services and licenses through an entity that holds an Ed Law 2-d and Part 121 compliant contract with Cisco—in this case Capital Region BOCES/NERIC. Webex licenses obtained directly through Cisco’s free offering or via a third-party reseller are not covered by Capital Region BOCES’ data sharing confidentiality agreement.

In addition, Capital Region BOCES has executed a business associate agreement (BAA) with Cisco to verify that Webex complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Similar to Ed Law 2-d—in order to access this agreement and comply with the law and regulations, a district or BOCES must purchase Webex services and licenses through an entity that holds a BAA with Cisco—in this case Capital Region BOCES/NERIC.

Webex Meetings and Webex Webinars will allow you to bring everyone together face-to-face with interactive video and screen sharing on any device (desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile phone). Districts are using Webex to replace in-person meetings, to allow Board of Education members to participate in meetings virtually, and to facilitate new staff interviews with prospective candidates. An added benefit for those with Distance Learning systems is the ability to connect those rooms to Webex directly.

There is also the option to expand upon Webex Meetings and Webex Webinars through Webex’s team functionality, where ongoing collaboration can happen all in one virtual place. Districts and organizations can use the messaging, file and screen sharing, video meetings, and whiteboarding features of Webex to keep staff connected and working from separate locations, from home, and on the go.
