NERIC unveils new, high-tech North Country facility

NERIC Plattsburgh ribbon cutting

Dozens of NERIC staff, members of the NERIC and Capital Region BOCES leadership teams, BOCES district superintendents and representatives from area businesses gathered on Nov. 4 for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting at NERIC’s new Plattsburgh facility.

In a high-tech twist, NERIC’s Albany-based staff were able to participate in the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting via the new video technology that is omnipresent throughout the new facility.

The new facility, located at 1523 Military Turnpike, Suite 100, in Plattsburgh, NY, includes three distinct training/conference areas featuring Cisco’s latest MX series of telepresence equipment, as well as flexible furniture and mobile laptop carts with PCs and Chromebooks. A sister facility, located in Albany, NY, was opened in September 2014.

"There are many reasons we are excited about the new facility and what it has to offer the schools and BOCES we support,” said NERIC Director Dale Breault. “Perhaps most significantly, we will now be able to make more exciting connections and collaborations happen between students, teachers and schools in the North Country and around the state. This is, after all, our most important mission.”

"It is exciting to see the new state-of-the-art NERIC facilities located here in the North Country," said Champlain Valley Educational Services (CVES) District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark C. Davey. "We are appreciative of the commitment to our region and component schools. We believe that this new facility will be an important asset and resource for all our districts and BOCES to better leverage the power of technology to improve learning, support high-quality programs and services and have the same competitive advantage of anywhere in the country."

“This new 21st-century facility is a wonderful representation of the caliber of service and support we offer to schools,” said Capital Region BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Charles S. Dedrick. “While we are sure it will benefit the schools across the North Country, we are hopeful it will also create more and greater opportunities to strengthen our connections with members of the local business community.”
